The Ultimate Medical Guide for Families in Bali

Let’s face it—traveling with kids means being prepared for anything, including the occasional bump, bruise, or tummy trouble. Bali is an amazing destination, but navigating medical care when you’re in an unfamiliar place can feel overwhelming.

As a fellow mom, I’ve done the legwork for you. Here’s everything you need to know about staying healthy in Bali, from hospitals and pediatricians to pharmacies and even getting medicine delivered to your door.

Hospitals in Bali: Where to Go When You Need Care

Nobody likes to think about emergencies, but knowing where to go is a must. Thankfully, Bali has several hospitals that cater to international visitors:

Siloam Hospital - Kuta

This modern hospital is great for serious emergencies or if you want top-notch care. The facilities are modern, and most of the staff speak English. It’s definitely on the pricier side, so be ready for higher bills.

Prima Medika Hospital - Denpasar

Need great care without breaking the bank? This is your spot. While it may not be as modern and flashy as Siloam, Prima Medika is incredibly reliable and trusted by many expat families in Bali.

We personally recommend Prima Medika for maternity and pediatric care— we had two kids born there and they’ve never let us down.

They have a dedicated maternity building, which operates 24/7, ready to assist pregnant patients at any time. Plus, their Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) are among the best on the island, offering top-notch care for newborns and children who need extra medical attention.

Pharmacies: Stocking Up on Essentials

Whether it’s bandages, fever meds, or something for an upset tummy, Bali’s pharmacies have you covered:

Guardian

They are strategically located in most tourism areas, and carry lots of international brands, which is a lifesaver when you’re looking for familiar products.

Kimia Farma

This is your go-to for affordable local medications and prescription services. They’re everywhere in Bali, so you’ll never have to look too far.

Mom Tip: Pharmacies here are well-stocked, but if your kids rely on specific medications, bring enough to last your trip.

Need Medicines Fast? Use Halodoc app

One of the best discoveries we’ve made in Bali is the Halodoc app. It’s a total lifesaver when you need medicines (yes, even prescription ones!) but can’t leave the house—or your kids are too sick to go anywhere.

Here’s how it works:

• You can consult a doctor online right through the app.

• If you need a prescription, they’ll issue it digitally.

• Then, just order your meds through Halodoc, and they’ll deliver them to your door within a couple of hours.

It’s super convenient, especially if you’re staying in a villa or hotel. And yes, they deliver to most parts of Bali!

By default, the Halodoc app is set to Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia), which can be tricky to navigate if you’re not familiar with the language. Luckily, it’s easy to switch the interface to English! Follow the steps below to make the app more user-friendly and accessible.

Lab Tests Made Easy with Prodia

Need a blood test or some other lab work done? Prodia is Bali’s top lab. They offer pretty much every test you can think of—perfect for checking on that lingering Bali Belly or routine health screenings.

Branches Everywhere: Prodia has a few branches on the island, but their main lab in Renon is the fastest and most equipped for more complex tests.

Quick Results: Most tests are ready within a day, and you can get your results online through their app.

Emergency Tip: Skip the Ambulance

Here’s a hard truth: calling an ambulance in Bali can take forever. Between traffic and delays, you’re often better off arranging your own transport if you need to get to the hospital fast.

If it’s not a life-threatening emergency, use a ride-hailing app like Gojek or Grab to book a car. It’s usually faster and much less stressful than waiting for an ambulance.

Mom Tip: Always keep the address of your nearest hospital handy and share it with the driver for a smoother experience.

Final Thoughts: Be Prepared, Stay Relaxed

Having a plan for medical care can take a huge weight off your shoulders when traveling with kids. From trusted hospitals and pediatricians to online medicine delivery and lab tests, Bali has plenty of options to keep your family healthy and safe.

Just remember: a little preparation goes a long way. Save these tips, download the Halodoc app, and make sure you have Gojek or Grab ready to go. Hopefully, you won’t need any of this—but if you do, you’ll be so glad you planned ahead.
